WRFB: Radio Free Brooklyn June 1st: Rain or Shine

Hey Everyone,

We had another great night at WRFBChristian John Wikane interviewed playwright/director/performance artist/professor Daniel Alexander Jones and Rob Fields had Earl Douglas the Executive Director of the Black Rock Coalition in studio to talk about the BRC 25th Anniversary and the show at Summerstage this Saturday featuring Pillow Theory, Ebony Bones and Living Colour! Don't miss out!

The weather here in New York doesn't know what it wants to do. It rains and it shines and my apartment just stays hot. So I decided to do a little musical weather report this week.  I hope you enjoy it!

WRFB: Radio Free Brooklyn: May 25th is all about "My People!"

Hey Everyone,

We had another great show tonight at WRFB.  It was the second installment of "My People."  I had to make some tough decisions since I know all the artists in the segment personally, but luckily I will do it again next month. So please take some time to check out the list get hip to some folks that you probably will not hear on commercial radio. Not yet anyway, but we are poised to bust through!

Finally I have to give a huge shout to Lionel Sanchez & Achuziam Maha-Sanchez as they welcomed their new baby boy Kanayo into the world on May 24th.  We have another addition to our musical family. Pictures coming soon.

WRFB: Radio Free Brooklyn: We found "The Lost Ones" (May 18)

Hey Everyone!
It was another great night at WRFB: Radio Free Brooklyn.  The theme for the evening was "The Lost Ones."  I know you may look at some of the names on my playlist and say, "Shelley, we know where D'Angelo is." Yes we know where he is, but was also know that D is a little lost right now. We love him dearly and have nothing but hugs and love for a brutha, but until I see an album in my hand then I don't believe it's coming.  That goes the same for Ms. Winehouse.

I did a little research on all the artists that I played on this show and I found out one big tidbit.  Lauryn Hill recently released a new album called Khulami Phase that only came out over seas.  There is a lot of speculation as to when the album was recorded, but nonetheless there it is.  I haven't heard it myself, but I thought that was pretty interesting.

If you are reading this and have any information about the artists listed that is NOT from Wikipedia holla at a sista.  Also if you want that Jamie Hawkins track leave me a comment with your email addy and I'll shoot it to you.

Thanks everyone and enjoy the music! Tune in next week when I'll be hitting you again with more of "My People."
